Line sets used to be one of the more boring parts of a ductless job — copper tubing, insulation, done. That's changed more than most contractors give it credit for, driven by three forces at once: the A2L refrigerant transition, faster-install expectations from both customers and labor-constrained shops, and manufacturers competing harder on total install time as a selling point to contractors, not just homeowners.

A2L Compatibility Isn't Optional Anymore on New Line Sets

The most consequential change is refrigerant compatibility. Line sets specified for A2L-rated systems need to meet different pressure and material requirements than legacy R-410A line sets, and manufacturers have been updating product lines accordingly.
